Challenge

I had an old tower PC that I had built originally for my school work but was just collecting dust since I had gotten a new laptop. I decided to convert the machine from a computer to a network accessed server (NAS). I uninstalled Windows and replaced it with FreeNAS, a free NAS software. It took a few weeks to get accommodated to the software but eventually, I got the server with 2 hard drives (2TB total) up and running. Initially, it was only filled with family pictures as a backup, but I found out how I could set up the plugin Plex to access files from anywhere with an internet connection. This essentially became my personal Google Drive which I filled with pirated movies and TV shows. Recently I figured out that with some tweaking with the settings, I could access the server from the TV. Nowadays, since my parents love to watch Indian movies and the site that they used to steam from is slow they started to download the movies to the server and watch it ad-free and buffer-free after dinner

Future Plans

We just installed a new Arlo Video Surveillance System and it functions great accept for the storage of that video feed. I dislike that we have to pay for the cloud storage of that footage. I would love to set up a system that would store the footage locally on the server.

Timeline (2018-Present)

Challenge

Over the summer, I saved up money to purchase my own desktop 3D printer. I purchased this printer with the intent to print anything that made my life easier, as well as printing objects for robotics. For my personal use, I have designed many objects using a combination of Solidworks and Inventor including a phone stand, wallet, and key holder for my wall, as well as a phone mount for my car just to name a few. Some of the other prints that I have done are to upgrade the printer itself such as cable chains for the wires and an improved cooling fan duct.

Future Plans

Keep printing parts for my Robotics club. With new upgrades, try more challenging printing jobs and analyze results from experiments.

Please check the exclusive page 3D-PRINTER explaining the story of my first machine that I upgraded completely.

Challenge

My interest in engineering was present even as a kid as I was crazy for Lego blocks. During elementary school, my favorite hobby was to get a new Lego set and build it to the finish line in one go. then using loose blocks to build imaginary objects. I remember spending timeless moments to pick the lego set for me. Each birthday I received the lego kits as my family knows how fanatic I was about them. To date, I have them intact in my room and I am very proud.

Over time, my passion extended into IKEA furniture assembling and I still enjoy it!
