Balsa Glider

Timeline (2019)

Challenge

I was tasked with designing a glider that would fly the furthest with only the initial launch with a slingshot

Analysis

I knew that the slingshot wasn't going to provide a ton of initial force and it was only a rubber band, so I had to have a lightweight plane. I also decided as 'internal space' wasn't a concern, a canard plane would be the best choice due to its stability during flight

Solution

I started on the computer with a program Aery32 which allowed me to design a glider and test its aerodynamics. After that, I used Balsa wood sheets for its lightweight properties model the wings, horizontal stabilizer, and vertical stabilizer.

Marble Sorter

Marble Sorter

Timeline (2018)

Challenge

I was asked to design a robot that would sort a mixed pile of 4 different types of marbles into 4 piles by their types. I was given wood, clear plastic, steel, and aluminum marbles, all identical in size, and asked to use a vex kit to build my robot.

Analysis

Since the size of all the marbles was identical, I resorted to using

I ended up using the vex sensors to discern the marbles from each other. During the testing, I experimented with many sensors such as the line follower, color sensor, and the light sensor.

Solution

From my testing, the line follower provided the best solution, as it had the widest tolerances to accommodate for the differences between each marble.

Achievements

My robot was the only machine to have a 100% success rate in the 30 marbles we were asked to sort under 5 minutes

Puzzle Cube

Puzzle Cube

Timeline (2017)

Challenge

My challenge was to design and construct a 5 part puzzle that would fit together in one specific way to create a 3x3 cube.

Analysis

I first designed my cube on some isometric paper, experimenting with different designs trying to create the most difficult puzzle. Next, when my design was final, I created an animation in Inventor that detailed how the cube went together.

Solution

As a final step, I made the pieces out of wood and painted the final puzzle.

Castle

Timeline (2017)

Challenge

My task was to design a castle.

Analysis

I originally planned out the basic features on graph paper and got an understanding of what the general layout was going to be.

Solution

To finish out the project, I CAD'ed out the complete castle in Inventor and 3D printed it.

Pegboard

Pegboard

Timeline (2016)

Challenge

My task was to design a simple children's toy.

Analysis

I decided a pegboard toy including the pegboard itself and the mallet

Solution

To finish out the project, I CAD'ed out the toy in Inventor
